But before telling you my response I want you to look at some elements of this image. You may see on both sides of the pathway the word NO although the statements are in Spanish you can tell that you are being forbidden to do certain things if you want to continue down the pathway and at the end of the pathway there is a figure. You may be able to see the ethnicity and the sex of the figure.
From the time I was a youth I was told NO! you can't have hot chocolate every day for breakfast, you have to drink orange peel tea, most days(not enough money to purchase it). No! you can't have more than one hops bread, No! you can't have electricity to study for common entrance-the entrance exam for secondary school-you have to use the only means of illumination for night vision in the house-kerosene. No! you can't use that language of which you have become accustomed, nah not in primary school- you'll surely get a severe whipping from the head master for using it. Well that occurred, you know when I regained my confidence to use that language at work when the leaders in Board rooms were using it freely-at school, church and home they made believe that was the dialect of the poor.
And in my quest to help my grand mother make money to satisfy our daily lives before taking the step to higher education there were NO's! again. It was No! you can't use this address- you would persuade potential employers to throw your application in the trash can . And it was NO! again when I tried for some other jobs, like with the banks, and others the ones that frown on people of my ethnicity, at the time.
I am negative because that's what life has bestowed on me from youth. It has saddle me with the word NO- for most of MY LIFE. And I am sure that there are many who can identify with my experiences and possibly suffered this same NEGATIVITY and maybe worst.
To overcome this negativity and to move along the path and reach to the end where you see the figure if you wish to use my image as an illustration you must be confident, you must be strong in character knowing that none of the NO's can be use to strike you down.
The people of my ethnicity who have achieved greatness and still remain humble are the ones I see at the end of my path if again you use my image as an illustration, because even though they may be younger than me they are my inspiration. People fail to UNDERSTAND that Emancipation of people's of color-my ethnicity -is still a pipe dream.
Someone sent me a quotation attributed to one of the Presidents of the USA of ethnicity different from mines and he stated UNTIL JUSTICE IS BLIND TO COLOR,UNTIL EDUCATION IS UNAWARE OF RACE,UNTIL OPPORTUNITY IS UNCONCERNED WITH THE COLOR OF MEN'S SKINS,EMANCIPATION WILL BE A PROCLAMATION BUT NOT A FACT.
